Best of Vermont Bike Tour

The Essence of Yankee Life and Land
We’ve been biking all over Vermont for 32 years but we keep coming back to central Vermont. The scenery is spectacular, the terrain is a little more forgiving than in other parts of the state, and the towns around which our tour is based are not just the loveliest in Vermont, but are among the prettiest in all of America as well. We have distilled the best of central Vermont into one fabulous trip – the best biking, the best restaurants, the nicest inns, hikes with the best views, and the most interesting sights. Give us six days and we’ll give you the finest of central Vermont and a bit of New Hampshire too. Come experience a New England bike trip that captures the essence of Yankee life and land.
Idyllic Bicycling
Great Freedom Adventure’s Vermont bike tour takes us alongside idyllic dairy farms, past classic red barns on quiet country roads. The route encompasses hills of course but also some flat stretches! We’ll bike past pristine lakes and rivers with plunging waterfalls. Test your courage by jumping into a swimming hole with water that feels like it was frozen yesterday. Cross historic covered bridges and discover a dramatic 163’ gorge. The hike along the bottom of the gorge is beautiful with a calm swimming area waiting to reward us.

Fascinating Sites
On our New England bike trip we’ll wind through picturesque Vermont towns, with white steepled churches surrounding town greens and explore a bit of New Hampshire along the way. Hanover, home of Dartmouth College, is bustling with youthful energy and blessed with New England charm. The many fine shops and cafes wait to tempt you. See master artisans at work at the renowned Simon Pearce glassblowing shop and sample the artisanal cheese at the Plymouth Cheese Factory, founded by President Calvin Coolidge’s father. We’ll tour the Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site, where Coolidge was sworn in as President by his father in 1923. The homestead is exactly as it was on the night he was sworn in and in fact, the entire village of Plymouth Notch is largely unchanged since the early 20th century.
Vermont’s Only National Park
Our bike tour takes us to Vermont’s Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historic Park. We’ll tour the farm and stately mansion, the boyhood home of George Perkins Marsh one of America’s first environmentalists. In addition to its beautiful architectural features, the house contains one of the largest private collections of Hudson River School art in the country. It is a gorgeous collection sure to take your breath away.

Woodstock – “The Prettiest Small Town in America”
Woodstock is bound to be a highlight on our Vermont bike tour. Because there is so much to experience in this very special place, we’ve crafted a trip that will give you the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in its many charms. Explore the unique shops and exquisite galleries lining the flower-filled streets. Tour historic homes, or hike some of the many peaceful trails leading to stunning views. Take a nighttime stroll along lantern-lined streets to one of the lovely bridges. Listen to the water gurgle underneath while overhead the sky sparkles with more stars than you may ever have seen before.
Daily Exercise – Nightly Rewards
As you bike through the gorgeous Vermont countryside and smell the freshly cut hay or autumn leaves, you’ll feel a connection to the land that is only possible when you are outside, moving under your own power, and experiencing your surroundings with all your senses. Reward each day’s efforts by relaxing at the pool or sipping a drink on our veranda. Woodstock’s elegant new spa is steps away for the ultimate relaxation. For the golf enthusiasts among us, both Randolph and Woodstock have wonderful 18 hole golf courses. You are always free to focus on the things you like to make your Vermont vacation perfect. Come experience the best of Vermont with us and make wonderful memories that will last a lifetime!
